Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Test Engineering Division (TEN) is currently seeking an mid-level Integrated Electronic Warfare (IEW) Systems Engineer for a full time research faculty position. TEN IEW research supports sponsored Foreign Military Sales (FMS) applications. Our IEW research aims to integrate the function of airborne federated EW systems, avionics, and data links. These system applications provide better overall aircraft self-protection suite performance, improved pilot situational awareness, and embedded training functions.


  • Develop, decompose, and implement sponsor requirements into IEW system design, architecture, and data interfaces for hardware and software components
  • Develop and modify system solutions using existing system specifications, interface definitions, and aircraft drawings
  • Integrate system components in laboratory and fielded settings
  • Isolate and report hardware and software component anomalies
  • Develop and test data analysis tools for IEW systems
  • Plan and conduct flight and chamber tests for IEW systems and analyze test data to determine system effectiveness and whether system requirements are met
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews, sponsor design reviews and business development initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Note: Consideration may be given to those holding a Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of experience

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in the development and test of EW and/or Avionics systems or equivalent
  • Experience in system engineering processes and methodologies applicable to complex systems development
  • Experience creating and conducting technical presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of architectures, functions, and interfaces for EW and Avionics Systems
  • Experience with relevant interfaces including MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, serial, discrete and analog interfaces
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging Hardware (HW) and Software (SW) systems
    HW and SW laboratory experience
  • Experience processing and analyzing data with tools such as Python
  • Experience with git-based configuration management systems

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
