Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Test Engineering Division (TEN) is currently seeking an entry-level Integrated Electronic Warfare (IEW) Software Engineer for a full time research faculty position. TEN IEW research supports sponsored Foreign Military Sales (FMS) applications. Our IEW research aims to integrate the function of airborne federated EW systems, avionics, and data links. These system applications provide better overall aircraft self-protection suite performance, improved pilot situational awareness, and embedded training functions.


  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to specify high level software requirements
  • Document software requirements and design implementations
  • Design, develop, and debug embedded software for IEW systems using approved processes and coding standards for embedded military system applications
  • Design, implement, and test Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Language (ML) techniques to support data analysis
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews and sponsor design reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as C/C++ or Ada
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies and tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with embedded software development and testing
  • Knowledge of EW and avionics system architecture, function, and interface
  • Experience with relevant interfaces, including MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, serial, discrete and analog interfaces
  • Familiarity with computer vision, artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts and applications
  • Experience with git-based configuration management systems

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
