The NEXT Lab team is searching for someone to provide data acquisition and instrumentation electrical engineering support for advancing the goals of the NEXT Lab as we move toward a new generation of molten salt reactor. A well-qualified individual for this position will be able to work with highly motivated faculty, staff, and students to help coordinate efforts in an evolving and multi-disciplinary environment. The individual will take a leadership role on a team including staff, faculty, and undergraduate student workers including both on-task mentoring and administrative supervision. The qualified person will have experience working in a research lab or R&D setting. This person must be willing to both follow and enforce safety protocols and documentation requirements for the group.

 

Basic Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the design, implementation, and documentation of the data acquisition and control systems for research projects.
  2. Write software as needed to facilitate human machine interfaces.
  3. Provide guidance to students as needed on instrumentation and procedures.

Essential Duties:

  1. Support the design, implementation, and documentation of the processes for collecting, organizing and analyzing experimental data.
  2. Design and support hardware/software interfaces for data collection instruments. 
  3. Perform design analysis and simulation with appropriate analysis software like KiCAD and/or SPICE.
  4. Work with a team to implement electrical design standards and procedures.
  5. Draft and review procedure documents such as work instructions, operating procedures, maintenance and repair manuals.
  6. Participate in assembly and lab testing of products.
  7. Participate in electronic system and software designs for molten salt equipment, and follow through with sourcing, building, testing, and maintenance of systems.

Professional Development Requirements:

  1. Experience with CAD software, Autodesk products preferred.
  2. Experience with an engineering data management software, Autodesk Vault preferred.
  3. Experience with common control communication protocols and layers such as TCP/IP, RS232, RS485, and Modbus.
  4. Circuit design and construction experience. KiCAD and SPICE-based electronic circuit simulation software experience preferred.
  5. Significant experience with Linux as well as C and C++ programming. To a lesser extent, experience with Python, HTML5, CSS, and Javascript.

Qualifications:

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Professional:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience (industry or university).

  1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to climb ladders if needed.
