Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD) is currently seeking an experienced Human Systems Engineer for a full time research faculty position in the Human Systems Engineering Branch (HSEB). HSEB is predominantly focused on the research, development and application of human systems engineering tools and methods for the design, development, and evaluation of complex systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Conduct task analyses (cognitive and functional)
  • Design information architectures and graphical user interfaces for complex military systems
  • Perform analyses and document results to support human systems engineering activities
  • Execute usability tests and evaluations of human systems
  • Lead small to mid-sized tasks, projects, and/or teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Master’s degree in Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.) and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.) and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.) and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Master’s degree in Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.) and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.) and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience conducting cognitive task analyses, job task analyses, and knowledge, skills and abilities analyses
  • Experience with conceptual design and detailed design of user interfaces
  • Experience with measurement and assessment of workload, situational awareness, usability, human performance, and user acceptance
  • Familiarity with experimental design and statistics (basic descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, structural equation modeling)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a field related to Human Systems Engineering (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, etc.)
  • Experience developing surveys and interview instruments
  • Experience with experimental design and statistics (basic descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, structural equation modeling)
  • Experience with military and ground systems
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized tasks, projects, and/or teams

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
