We have an opening for a Team Leader and Senior Network Engineer for the High Performance Computing (HPC) Center. You will provide expert level engineering in the areas of network design, configuration, and management considering emerging technologies, best practices and industry standards. You will be responsible for articulating highly advanced networking concepts to programmatic management and systems architects to collaboratively design a cohesive, structured, and secured network environment. This position is in the Computing Operations and Networking Group in the Livermore Computing (LC) Division in the Computing Directorate.

Essential Duties
-Lead the LC HPC networking team in researching, investigating, recommending, and implementing advanced and secure HPC network solutions.
-Provide expert-level knowledge in configuring and troubleshooting VLANs, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), software defined networks (SDN), policy-based routing (PBR), STP, HSRP and firewalls in large, complex networks, network services, enterprise services and applications relating to network technologies.
-Architect and implement HPC datacenter networks, utilizing modern networking overlay technologies including EVPN, VXLan, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), etc.
-Provide advanced troubleshooting and operational support specifically for network security and firewall configurations as well as support for edge, core, distribution and access layers.
-Introduce and articulate highly advanced networking concepts in network design solutions to influence strategy and future direction of enterprise networks, and lead the troubleshooting of complex production or implementation issues.
-Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences, and manage the training of the HPC network team.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
-Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
-Significant experience leading a technical team and managing complex technical projects.
-Advanced ability to troubleshoot infrastructure capacity/performance problems and provide proposed solutions.
-Significant experience configuring and managing HPC datacenter and enterprise networks in LAN & WAN environments, and designing, configuring, operating, monitoring and managing switches and routers or equivalent network equipment.
-A solid foundation in high-performance computing, including experience with large supercomputers, and various interconnected SAN filesystems and tape backup storage systems.
-Advanced knowledge of standards governing both TCP/IP and Ethernet, as well as advanced knowledge of L2/L3 network principles.
-Significant experience supporting secure, highly reliable, enterprise networks.
-Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with individuals at all levels of an organization with the ability to support occasional schedule-driven project deliverables and off-hours infrastructure upgrades.

Security Clearance: This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
