Job Description

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) group within Intel's Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group (AXG) defines, delivers, and markets products that are critical to customers in Cloud, Government, Academia, and Industrial market segments.  AXG products enable a broad range of breakthroughs from cutting edge film making and animation, to scientific discoveries, weather simulation, to success in investment banking, to breakthroughs in manufacturing from small businesses to the largest industries. 

 

The Architecture Systems Engineering (ASE) group is looking for a Software Application Development Engineer passionate about application performance and energy optimizations.  In this position you will be responsible for, but not limited, to the following: 

  • Design, develop, test, and debug software applications used by end-users or integrated with other applications by ISV partners.  Development may span the full application stack including both front-end and back-end application development

  • Use modern software development methodologies and programming languages, follows secure coding practices and software legal compliance guidelines, analyzes user stories, writes both functional and test code, automates build and deployment, and performs unit integration and end-to-end testing of applications

  • Complete SDL tasks with the assistance of product security engineers and provides input to technical writers to complete product documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance

  • Interact with end users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications

  • Analyze different system and workload scenarios and develop techniques for software optimization of HPC applications, considering CPU and GPU utilization patterns, node to node communication patterns and fine-grained frequency-performance sensitivity

  • Incorporate workload behavior insights into GEOPM (https://geopm.github.io), an extensible, open-source runtime Power Management system for HPC systems

  • Collaborate directly with external partners that develop applications software where the focus would be enabling and optimization of 3rd party software applications.  Code may be used in a variety of commercial or end-user applications

  • Integrate a diverse team including researchers, hardware, and software engineers in charge of codeveloping software, firmware, and hardware components into vertically integrated solutions

  • Publish and share the results in the form of trainings, talks, academic articles, or developer blogs

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position.  Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying the top candidates


Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or directly related field plus 6 years of industry work experience in one, or more of the following:

  • High-level languages such as C, C++, Fortran, and Python

  • Execution and optimization of HPC workloads on highly parallel Linux systems

  • Strong functional and performance debugging skills

  • Parallel programming runtimes like MPI (Message Passing Interface) and OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing)

  • Industry standard benchmarking testing and test automation tools and frameworks

  • Software development and software testing methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or directly related field and 2+ years of related industry work experience

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or directly related field and 4+ years of industry work experience

  • HPC and datacenter architectures knowledge

  • Power management technologies familiarity: dynamic voltage frequency scaling (DVFS), power capping, thermal and power telemetry

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, Colorado:
$130,020.00-$195,420.00
