We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to perform research in the development of high performance memory intensive architectures and related software/hardware systems. You will work and interact with other members of the memory intensive computing team as well as other architecture, compiler, performance optimization, and applications research groups. This position is in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) Division within the Computing Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Research, design implement, and evaluate advanced memory intensive system components through simulation and emulation on FPGA.
- Research, design, and implement runtime systems and libraries in an embedded computing environment.
- Document research by publishing papers in peer-reviewed media and presenting papers within the DOE community and at conferences.
- Collaborate with co-design teams to better understand application needs and to evaluate proposed components, and interact with LLNL production staff to integrate with LLNL production systems.
- Contribute to group grant proposals, including proposal presentations and preparation of proposals that will provide future research opportunities in the field.
- Participate in the establishment of future research directions.
- Pursueindependent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to define and carry out the research.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Recent Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of FPGA hardware design, embedded systems and system software.- Familiarity with HPC systems and knowledge of memory intensive computing applications.
- Ability to conduct high quality independent research and to develop implementations to evaluate the results.
- Experience in the identification of complex problems and solutions in a creative and timely manner.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact in a clear and concise manner, author technical and scientific reports and papers, and deliver scientific presentations.
- Ability to take the initiative and have interpersonal communication skills necessary to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with embedded computing software development environment.
- Knowledge of C/C++, SystemC, VHDL, Verilog, as well as Python and other scripting languages.- Familiarity with architecture simulators, FPGA-based emulators, OS drivers, and knowledge of parallel programming models such as streaming, data parallel, task-based.

Security Clearance: None required.

However, if your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process. Note: This is a one year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
