Job Description

GTRI's Information Systems Division (ISD) is seeking a candidate to lead the High-Performance Computing (HPC) effort within GTRI.  This candidate will be responsible for setting the overall direction and vision of HPC across the organization as well as pulling together smaller HPC efforts that already exist within the organization.  This position will be responsible for leading the design and construction of a new HPC system if necessary as well as planning for future researcher needs and designing an overall infrastructure thats adaptive to those future needs.

Job Duties

  • Creating a GTRI wide strategy for Research focused computing; specifically around High-Performance Computing
  • Coordinate with laboratory-based Researchers to design systems that meet project needs as well as help ensure that best fit solutions are able to be identified
  • Be the High-Performance Computing subject matter expert within GTRI
  • Supplement Laboratory IT resources for research-based computing and fill in needs where they exist
  • Work with the Information Systems Department and Lab Project Directors to ensure that projects needs are met, and future needs can be anticipated
  • Contribute to the formulating project goals, objectives, scope, schedules, and resource requirements
  • Coordinate planning and monitor performance of project-related work activities; advise project management accordingly
  • Interact with functional users in addressing business needs and in executing change management programs required to meet those needs
  • Participate in the preparation and delivery of project status presentations
  • Additional IT duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong experience running and managing an HPC system in an enterprise environment
  • Strong Linux Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology, or a related field of study

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
