Job Description

A full-time position for an experienced HPC Engineer High-Performance Computing systems architecture is available with the Information Systems Department at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). This new team delivers high-performance computing solutions to the research enterprise that includes 1800 full-time researchers and over $765M in annual awards. Georgia Tech Research Institute is a leader in national security and economic development for the State of Georgia.

Job Duties

  • Design, build and operate high-performance computing systems
  • Create systems for automating deployment, configuration management, and patch management
  • Develop systems for continuous monitoring of key performance metrics
  • Evaluate and select state-of-the-art hardware and software for high-performance computing system management and operation
  • Design and configure systems to be in compliance with applicable regulations, such as NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, DAAPM, and JSIG
  • Serve as Level 2 help desk support for enterprise HPC systems
  • Prototype and evaluate hardware, software, and service offerings to support sponsored research
  • Work with developers to conduct performance analysis of application codes to suggest optimization strategies

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Solid understanding of how HPC systems are designed from the ground up and can use that knowledge to help others achieve the greatest performance that the machine can offer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Prior professional experience working for a national laboratory
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator or other applicable certifications
  • DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certifications
  • Candidate knowledge of and experience with other HPC technologies such as networking (Ethernet, Infiniband, OPA), parallel filesystems (Lustre, GPFS, Gluster), and cluster management and scheduling (Slurm) is preferred.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
