Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute has opportunities for research engineers to perform high performance computational software development within the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL).  The Research Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing real-time C and C++ software solutions in high-performance, Linux-based computing environments.  He or she will implement radar and electronic warfare algorithms originally modeled in MATLAB.  The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in high-performance computing technologies such as multi-processing, high-speed networking, and GPUs.

Candidates must be self-motivated and enjoy working with a variety of cutting edge technologies. Candidates will contribute to sponsored research projects and have an opportunity to interact with other engineers and technicians.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than August, 2019
  • Strong experience with C, C++, and Linux programming
  • Master’s degree in a related field, or intent to earn one in the near future
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a research environment where there are many unknowns and undiscovered paths (ambiguity etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing U.S. security clearance
  • Familiarity with MATLAB
  • Experience or strong interest in high-performance computing technologies such as multi-processing, high-speed networking, and GPUs
  • Experience or strong interest in radar, electromagnetics, signal processing, acoustics, control theory, image processing, or optimization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
