Radiology at UWMC-Northwest is equipped with the advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuro-imaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin.

Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.

UW Medical Center - Northwest Breast Imaging has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME DAY SHIFT, HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNICIAN 3. This position is responsible for providing radiology images, service, & information to hospital staff, patients & outside facilities including law enforcement and attorneys. Maintain confidentiality adhering to UWMC policies and procedures with strict attention to accuracy and detail. Work independently preventing and resolving complex problems in coordinating the availability of images & information. Communicates potential and unresolved problems to supervisor or lead in charge. Maintain statistical data and logs for budget expenditures. Extensive training and knowledge of the various radiology exams and anatomy is necessary as well as good interpersonal skills. Facilitate & communicate corrections of patient related information to appropriate areas. The following functions and tasks do not include all that are possible in this work nor do they limit the assignment of allotted tasks.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Receive, register, and create folder for images received from outside sources into RIS/Imagecast for tracking purposes. 
2. Digitize any selected outside films for long term availability on PACS.
3. Provide UWMC images/films to outside sources assuring that a legal signed release is completed and documentation of where images are loaned.
4. Scan completed releases into retained dept. records. In legal cases interface with law enforcement & attorneys and assure proper procedures are followed. 
5. Provide images, schedule, and bill for copies or burn images onto CDs at no cost to patient.
6. Utilize and expedite delivery of images to requested sources via Fed-ex, Shuttle, US Mail, or hand delivery by patient or courier. 
7. Serve as a primary contact person to provide accurate information regarding policies and procedures for Radiology Records and related computer system such as PACS/RIS.
8. Investigate incomplete/in-accurate cases ordered for proper action such as release paper works.
9. Import outside CD, images using TeleRAD, lifeIMAGE, BEAM and eMix.
10. Transfer/Import images including scheduling in RIS and merging in PACS.
11. Answer phone calls. Handle technical and medical information in a variety of formats electronic/paper including basic trouble shooting of RIS/PACS and related computer system issues.
12. Act as Acting Lead when the Lead is on leaves.
13. Coordinate research requests from outside agencies and internal departments to access patient records.
14. Prepare and send requested patient images following appropriate and complete format.
15. Assist in orienting and training new Physicians/Nurses/new staff regarding Radiology workflow.
16. Perform basic trouble shooting of RIS, PACS and other related Radiology computer system.
17. Interact with Law enforcement Officials and attorneys regarding release of information.
18. Respond to patient questions following a variety of Radiology work procedures and methods including transfer of images via PACS and PACSCUBE.
19. Understand and adheres to the National Patient Safety goals and described yearly by the Joint Commission.
20. Perform other related job duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Must be able to read and write on a level generally acquired through a high school education.
2. Ability to communicate verbally, including via telephones; ability to interact effectively with physicians, allied health professionals, physician's office staff, other department personnel, etc.
3. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information via computer.  Must have previous information systems experience.
4. Course work in medical terminology or anatomy/physiology required.
5. Analytical ability necessary to assemble cases and solve problems.
6. One year of Medical Records experience is desirable.
7. Two to three months on the job training is necessary for full familiarity with department and UW Medical Center procedures.
8. Must have ability to climb stairs and ladders and stand for long periods of time.
9. Must have ability to perform moderate lifting.
10. Must have ability to work independently and prioritize work appropriately.
11. Must be able to see and hear.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) program AND eligible for registration as an RHIT AND one year of experience in health information management
OR
equivalent education/experience.
