Health Data Analytics/Informatics Researcher- ICL

Atlanta, GA 30303

Job Description

The Center of Health Analytics and Informatics in the Information and Communications Laboratory seeks to fulfill full-time roles working on a wide variety of health data science and computer science/engineering problems. Our team is looking for data and computer scientists with a strong applied research background and passion for solving health-related research problems. Researchers should have a focus on either data science, machine learning, or health informatics. Experience in analyzing large health data sets to extract meaningful insight is preferred. In particular a research history in data science (statistical analysis and inference, machine learning, and graph analytics) as well as applied software engineering experience (using Python, R, Julia, etc.) with health data sets are desired. Demonstrated experience working with multiple programming languages and development environments is preferred.

The candidate should be able to communicate effectively their results both through documentation as well as through technical writing and reports. Candidate may also be asked to work on proposals for funding, thus proposal writing experience is preferred. Candidates should be adept in learning new programming languages and frameworks quickly, and should be able to demonstrate the ability to integrate large projects together that span multiple languages and problem domains.

Occasional travel may be required and is project dependent. The Center for Health Analytics and Informatics at GTRI works on problems ranging from computational phenotyping on patient medical records, to building scalable machine learning models from multi-modal biomedical data. Our applied research spans the full technology stack and incorporates many aspects of health informatics and analytics research. Therefore, experience with electronic medical records, clinical data ontologies (such as SNOMED-CT), FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), and OMOP (Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership) Common Data Model, is highly preferred. We are looking for candidates that have a passion for applying computational methods to solve complex problems in health and public health research.

This position may additionally support consulting efforts on existing data science infrastructures. Familiarity with open source tools, particularly in Python is essential. Given the research initiatives in the Center, experience in applied Natural Language Processing (NLP) is preferred. In addition, experience with methods of computational phenotyping, either through clinical codes or statistical methods would be highly favorable for the applicant.

Candidate must be a US citizen; a security clearance may be required for future projects within the institute.
