Head of School, School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering

The Head of School for Electrical Engineering and Robotics leads a vibrant, flagship area within the newly established Faculty of Engineering at QUT. We are seeking a dynamic leader, with an outstanding track record of scholarship and engagement in this field.

Our faculty broadly focuses on teaching, research and building a better quality of life through advancements in robotics, manufacturing, Al, architecture, and construction. The School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics was established in 2020 and brings together engineers who are committed to shaping the world we live in through sustainable energy solutions, advanced robotics and intelligent technology. 

Our teams conduct research and teaching in:

  • robotics and autonomous systems—including robotic vision and control, and autonomous vehicles on the land, sea and air, with applications in agriculture, medicine, mining and manufacturing
  • power—especially power electronics and power systems in an environment of changing energy supply and demand
  • vision and signal processing—embracing speech, audio, image and video technology.


The school’s pure and applied research has depth and diversity. The school is home to the QUT Centre for Robotics (also established in 2020)—led by Distinguished Professor Peter Corke—and is the largest and fastest growing robotics research group in Australia. The school strongly contributed to QUT’s Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2018 results including two ratings of 5 and two ratings of 4. 

The school hosts the lead node of the ARC Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, which works at the frontiers of autonomous systems research with expertise in terrestrial, marine and aviation autonomy. It also hosts the ARC Training Centre for Collaborative Robotics in Advanced Manufacturing aimed at building the human and technical capability Australia needs to underpin its global competitiveness in advanced manufacturing. Our research is supported by deep industry connections that enable the translation of our cutting-edge research into real-world outcomes. 

Through long-standing collaborations with partners such as BMW, Boeing, Stryker and Shell, the faculty remains at the forefront of STEM education by facilitating learning that is delivered on campus, online and in the real world. Our faculty is home to outstanding researchers of international renown who collaborate with partners to improve systems in robotics, medical, mechanical, mining, food and beverages, energy and water. These strong industry connections enable us to address complex challenges through research and innovation, as well as offer our students relevant and practical learning experiences – a hallmark of QUT’s pedagogical approach. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging leader to join the Executive Dean, together with the Faculty Executive Team, in shaping the future of electrical engineering and robotics here at QUT.
