Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute's Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) seeks students to join our Sensor Systems Engineering Division. Students will assist the Hardware and Development Group in various hardware development tasks.  Students should be interested in learning about the development and assembly of RF, Analog, and Digital systems.

Due to the nature of the work at GTRI, job duties will depend upon contract and sponsor needs. Students could participate in the following projects/tasks:

  • Soldering  to IPC J-001 standards
  • Assembling and wiring custom cables to the 620 IPC standards
  • Assembling and wiring custom modules and chassis to IPC standards
  • Provide technical assistance to engineering personnel.
  • The ability to analyze basic AC and DC circuits.
  • Working with the mechanical team in assembling and fabricating chassis.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, Industrial Maintenance and Electrical Technology, Air Conditioning Technology or related field
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  •  Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Familiarity with office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong math skills and ability to learn engineering concepts
• Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
• Knowledge and ability to analyze basic AC and DC circuits.
• Experience with soldering and electrical wiring
• Basic SolidWorks design

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
