Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for a hardware oriented engineer who enjoys challenging technical problems, creating innovative solutions, and fielding those solutions. The Georgia Tech Research Institute has opportunities for research engineers within the Sensor and Systems Engineering Division (SSED). SSED projects focus on developing hardware for a wide range of Department of Defense applications. Hardware development includes designing and building custom hardware, modifying existing hardware, implementing solutions using general purpose hardware, and re-purposing hardware. Applications primarily include radar, electronic warfare, and embedded signal processing but often span into communication systems, surveillance systems, and other remote sensing applications.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a research environment where there are many unknowns

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing security clearance 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • C, C++, HDL, VHDL, Python, Matlab, FPGA, GPU programming, CAD software, circuit design software

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
