Join us and make YOUR mark on the World!

Come join Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) where we apply science and technology to make the world a safer place; now one of 2020 Best Places to Work by Glassdoor!

We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to perform innovative new research in the field of metal stable isotope geochemistry. You will focus on characterizing the behavior of moderately volatile elements (e.g. Zn and Ga) in lunar rocks, in order to better understand the timing and extent of volatile loss from the Moon. In addition, you will have opportunity to support ongoing research in cosmochemistry and nuclear forensics. This position is in the Chemical and Isotopic Signatures group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.

Essential Duties
- Develop and pursue innovative research in the field of lunar geochemistry and cosmochemistry.- Determine the elemental and isotopic composition of stable metal isotopes in a range of lunar rocks and mineral separates using high-purity separation chemistry and multi-collector mass spectrometry.- Document and publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Earth Science, Geochemistry, Cosmochemistry or related field.- Experience in handling and processing geological samples, including dissolution techniques and purification of elements from complex matrices for isotopic analyses by mass spectrometer.- Experience in multi-collector ICP-MS for determination of high precision isotope ratios.- Experience in the interpretation of stable metal isotope fractionation during geologic and anthropogenic processes.- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, author technical and scientific reports and publications, and deliver scientific presentations.- Documented publication record in peer-reviewed literature with experience presenting research results to a large audience.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.
