The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Electrochemical Energy Storage

and Storage Systems (Berliner Modell)

in the Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering to be filled as soon as possible.

The professorship is in personal union with a management position at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.

This professorship is also particularly suitable for early career researchers.

We are looking for a personality with excellent competence in application-oriented research and teaching in the field of electrochemical energy storage. Profound skills in the basics and application of all known electrochemical methods for storage of energy and in-depth knowledge and relevant experience to rechargeable batteries (secondary batteries) are expected. The expertise of the position holder should include battery cells and the underlying processes (cell processes) as well as battery systems and the own research focus should lie on at least one of these areas. Within the research focus, questions of the technical sustainability of battery cells and systems should be an integral part. At the same time, the professorship is to support the topic of "Green Batteries" and to establish a close network with other, suitable institutes of the University of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, by initiating appropriate project initiatives.

In teaching, the position holder should comprehensively represent the topic of energy storage in the Sustainable Systems Engineering degree program (thermal and thermochemical, mechanical, electrical, electrochemical and chemical energy storage). Besides being well established on an international level, the position holder must demonstrate experience in the acquisition of third-party funded research, including through industrial cooperation, and be willing to cooperate in coordinated research projects.

Requirements

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation equivalent according to the German academic system, are expected.
