The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Electrical Instrumentation and Embedded Systems

(successor of Prof. Reindl)

in the Department of Microsystems Engineering to be filled byOctober 01, 2020.

The professorship is expected to represent the topic of electrical instrumentation and its applications in embedded systems in the context of research and teaching. Suitable candidates must have an excellent track record in the field of electrical instrumentation (fundamentals, principles, and applications) as well as in at least one of the following research fields:

  • Signal processing: analog, digital, mixed-signal
  • Hardware and software for embedded systems
  • Smart sensors and multi-sensor data fusion; smart systems integration
  • Swarm-sensor technology and distributed systems: energy supply and communication
  • Hardware-dependent programming: real-time operating systems, microcontrollers and FPGAs

Strong candidates follow a research strategy that includes well-founded basic research in combination with convincing application scenarios with reference to practical implementations. The university expects the candidates to have an interest in collaborating with other professorships at the department as well as a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and to continuing education programs. Plans for cooperation within the cluster of excellence “Living, Adaptive, and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems (livMats)”, the center of “Intelligent Machine-Brain Interfacing Technology (IMBIT)“, or the “Sustainability Center Freiburg” are appreciated.

Requirements

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
