Job Description

The flight test engineer in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Air National Guard Program Office (ANGPO) will support flight test research for the Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC) operations section. The position will perform test program leadership to include test planning, test execution, data analysis, test and evaluation engineering, and systems engineering. The flight test engineer will perform hardware, software, and systems testing for a mid-sized team of engineers executing ongoing sponsored programs. This position is located in Tucson, AZ.

Job Duties

  • Develop F-16, A-10 and C-130 modernization program requirements, acquisition strategy, test strategy and sustainment strategy 
  • Plan, provision, execute, analyze, and report on a variety of test programs from bench level to on-aircraft open-air range testing 
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Electronic Warfare (EW) flight test planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting
  • Support other flight test engineers in the development of flight scenarios in order to efficiently and effectively collect data necessary to determine system performance under test and operation
  • Support sponsor programmatic reviews, planning meetings, concept development efforts, and technical interchange meetings
  • Develop flight test engineer training programs and support GTRI campus initiatives as required
  • Interpret flight test plans as well as user requirements, and translate testing requirements into a comprehensive data analysis plan
  • Maintain flight test data sets and merge them with qualitative data gathered during the test process
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelor's and Master's degree with one or both in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's and Masters degree with one or both in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Bachelor's and Doctoral degree with one or both in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelor's and Masters degree with one or both in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Bachelor's and Doctoral degree with one or both in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Fighter aircraft flight test control and conduct experience
  • Electronic Warfare (EW) experience to include a working knowledge of EW test ranges
  • Numerical modeling, statistical computing, and scripting skills/experience
  • Experience in the development and publication of technical reports, data packages, test plans and safety analysis plans 
  • Experience in one or more of the following: flight test planning, flight test data analysis, design of experiments, radar, avionics systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following: test and evaluation of aerospace systems, sensor integration, signal processing, EO/IR sensors, RF threat systems
  • Experience as a rated US military Electronic Warfare Officer, Naval Flight Officer, Combat Systems Officer, or Electronic Combat Pilot
  • Graduate of a formal Test Pilot School
  • Experience in the development of Python scripts, MATLAB, or related mathematical based programming platforms
  • Experience with 4th and 5th generation fighter mission systems and tactical employment considerations
  • Secret Clearance

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
