Imagine what you could do here! Do you care about how products perform, what makes them fabulous yet ensures they're safe and user-friendly in the deepest sense? Do you ever consider what care, attention, and intention gets put into Apple's products that upholds user trust and confidence?

The engineering team in Apple's ground breaking Product Safety department is responsible for ensuring all products we release meet international safety standards and regulations, but also meet performance requirements that befit Apple's brand and the highest expectations.

Our mission is to ensure that Apple products are safe for use throughout the world and comply with worldwide safety requirements throughout each device's lifetime. One important aspect we focus on, is to evaluate safety field returns, and customer feedback, to understand failure mechanisms and drive continuous, product improvements.

We're looking for a tenacious and seasoned Hardware Engineer with relevant expertise in Failure Analysis (FA), Project Management, Process Engineering, Field Captures, and Cross-functional Leadership. This will be a lead role that calls for a professional who understands how to work across multiple organizations and drive appropriate action, all while exercising an exacting attention-to-detail on field return analyses and root cause determinations.

This role will be based in Austin, Texas, and focused on the AMR area of operations and manage liaison with critical internal partners.

Key Qualifications

  • Possess proven experience evaluating the field returns of consumer electronics, ideally at a system product level.
  • Design or Process Engineer with intimate understandings of Apple products, devices, and manufacturing. This individual ideally is familiar with analytical techniques such as optical, electrical, mechanical and chemical evaluations. These would include, but are not limited to CT and X-ray analysis, SEM, FDIR, etc.
  • Experience conducting field trend analyses and generating reports to be consumed at the team and executive levels. Proficiency in using analytical and statistical software and tools are huge plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in executive presentation and cross-functional communication. Candidate must have strong leadership skills and knows how to influence across organizations and build consensus through data-driven arguments.
  • High hunger factor with a keen sense of schedule constraints and familiarity with rapid development cycles.
  • Experience with Safety-related failure mechanisms, Failure Analysis techniques, Safety Standards, and/or Project Management are big pluses.
  • Experience working with overseas Manufacturing and/or Vendor Management are highly desirable.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience is a plus.

Description
- Provide clear, data-driven, and precise evaluations for Safety field returns
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and support staff, review finished analyses, and lead deep FA inquiries as needed, employing myriad techniques
- Generate data and feedback to be used toward guiding designs and/or PRQs as they relate to product designs at both system and module levels
- Work closely with our state-of-the-art failure analysis labs to determine root causes when examining customer safety returns
- You will be working with our cross-functional teams such as AppleCare, Exec Relations hardware engineering, reliability, legal, as well as our own safety technicians
- Engage in continuous improvement of evaluation methods, standardize processes, and train junior staff members
- Executive presence and superlative communication skills are a must. The ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines, and ambiguous circumstances will be essential to success.
- International and/or domestic travel up to 20% of the time may be required as business needs dictate.

Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred
- Proven experience in lieu of education shall be considered on case-by-case basis
