Faculty Position in Computer and Information Sciences: Continuing-Track Open Rank

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences

University of Delaware

Newark, DE

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences at the University of Delaware (CIS at UD) invites applications for a teaching faculty position to begin Fall 2022. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with an initial two-year contract, renewable in a program that leads to substantial job security. Continuing-Track (CT) positions at UD have access to sabbaticals and Professor titles for doctoral degree holders. All CT appointments have a promotion path. The University offers an active CT Caucus and professional centers dedicated to effective teaching.

Our department (over 35% women faculty) prides itself on quality teaching: in the last 20 years, no other department has won more University-wide Excellence in Teaching awards. CIS at UD has an active computer science education research group in collaboration with the College of Education and significant outreach to K-12 teachers and students in collaboration with the state Department of Education. The State of Delaware now promotes a three-course CS track in high schools, and our faculty and students lead service-learning CS projects with public schools and participate in scholarship on CS Education. You will join CIS at UD (https://www.cis.udel.edu/about/working-at-ud-cis/) as we experience increasing student quality in our majors, growth in our faculty and student body, and the benefits of a top-100 NSF grant institution.

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be teaching (typically three to four courses per semester). The successful candidate will also participate in student advisement, service to the Department and University, and scholarly activities such as curriculum development. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and service; more senior applicants should have a record of teaching excellence, and junior applicants should demonstrate a potential for teaching excellence. Experience with broadening participation in computing is a plus. A doctoral degree in computer science or a related discipline by the start date is expected, though exceptional candidates with a master’s degree will be considered.

One of the oldest institutions of higher education in this country, the University of Delaware is a premier co-educational institution of 18,600+ undergraduate students and 4200+ graduate students. With a distinguished faculty and strengths in study abroad, undergraduate research, and active and discovery learning, the University offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate degrees across seven colleges. The beautiful 100-acre central campus is located in Newark, DE, about halfway between New York City, and Washington, DC.

How to Apply: Applications should include: a cover letter (addressed to Prof. Li Liao, Faculty Search Committee Chair), a vita, contact information of at least three references and a statement on teaching at https://www.udel.edu/faculty-staff/human-resources/careers/   Job Reference # 497161 .
