Job Summary:

The Ultra Precision Manufacturing Center (UPMC) has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will be working in a machining environment collaborating with multiple organizations in support of production. The ideal candidate should be able to develop, modify, apply, and maintain rigorous quality standards, control systems, and protocols. The ideal candidate will be able to develop inspection plans and methods to help validate engineering designs/specifications and meet stringent quality and reliability requirements. The role also entails the authentication of process control documents, requirements, objectives, and/or contracts. Employee will be expected to identify and manage risk in product development, primarily utilizing Production Part Approval Process (PAPP) core elements e.g. PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, etc. The ability to develop and implement proactive quality strategies is imperative. Applicant should be well versed in escape management procedures, root cause analyses, and recommendations for corrective action(s). They will frequently be called upon to ensure all requirements are met for work transfer and process change management (e.g. Resourcing Gate and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) acceptance), and to support the development and maintenance of inspection practices to assure product conformance.

Responsibilities to Anticipate: Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies
Integrate performance and conformance verifications such as First Articles and audits throughout value stream processes to prevent quality escapes, optimize throughput and assure on-time delivery of products and services
Perform review and assessment of nonconformities to: characterize causes as routine (common) or exceptional (special); and develop effective containment and elimination plans
Regularly generate and publish Cost of Rework and Scrap (CoPQ), Rejected material awaiting disposition, Escapes, other quality performance metrics and drive action from other functions such as Manufacturing engineering and Operations
Facilitate and guide cross-functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB)
Assess product performance using statistical methods to understand root cause, identify significant variances to predicted/targeted values
Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary
Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management
Development and maintenance of inspection instructions, ensuring inspection instructions meet the technical data package requirements and meet production needs
Analyze/validate measurement system capability for accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, and stability over time

Regularly collaborate with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA)

Daily status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issue, and weekly meetings to help CoRS.

Qualifications You Must Have:Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
Two (2) years of experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline
Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g. 6-sigma, lean manufacturing)
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well with customers, suppliers and in a team environment
Effective verbal and written communication and networking skills to work with all levels of the company and customer community with demonstrated proficiency at preparing and presenting information to upper management and customers
An active and in-scope secret US security clearance

Qualifications We Value:Six Sigma, ASQ Certifications
Experience in related Quality, Operations, Engineering or related discipline
Experience in Manufacturing/Design process with understanding of engineering principles and design review techniques
Ability to understand drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control
Knowledgeable of Machine Shop practices
Demonstrated knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 M
Utilize CMM software, preferably (Zeiss Calypso & DMIS)
Knowledge of descriptive statistics and statistical control methodologies (i.e. Measurement Systems Analysis (GR&R), DOE, capability analysis, etc.)
Knowledgeable in Production Part Approval Process (PAPP) core elements e.g. PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, etc.). Develops and implements proactive quality strategies.
Ability to develop and implement robust process controls
Ability to identify root cause and initiate/implement effective short-term and long-term corrective actions
Experience in development/usage of Quality metrics that may be used to drive true root cause and long-term corrective action, and in the identification/institution of perceptive verifications
