We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to play a major role in developing and conducting experiments to improve the beta-decay data for fission products that are of importance to stockpile stewardship, nuclear energy, and nuclear astrophysics. This research takes advantage of the radioactive beams available at facilities such as CARIBU at Argonne National Laboratory and FRIB at Michigan State University. The responsibilities include setting up and participating in experiments, performing data analysis, and interpreting and publishing the results. You will also have opportunities to participate in the overall beta-decay program of the group. You will maintain a close collaboration with the nuclear theory and data evaluation community. This position is in the Nuclear and Particle Physics Group of the Physical and Chemical Sciences Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct beta-decay experiments at accelerator-based facilities.
- Perform data analysis and interpret the results of experiments.
- Lead development of detector systems needed for beta-decay studies.
- Develop simulations of particle transport and detector performance.
- Validate simulations using calibration sources and experimental results.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings.
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues at Argonne National Laboratory, Michigan State University, and the broader nuclear science community to perform measurements on radioactive nuclei.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- PhD in a nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear engineering, nuclear chemistry or related field.
- Knowledge with accelerator-based experiments and nuclear decay spectroscopy.
- Experience with radiation counting using charged-particle and gamma-ray detectors.
- Programming experience in C++ and/or other programming languages.
- Experience performing data analysis and simulations with ROOT, GEANT4, or similar programs.
- Documented publication record in peer-reviewed literature in physics or a related field.
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a focused team.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and present and explain technical information

Note: This is a 2year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years. Eligible candidates are those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
