Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Test Engineering Division (TEN) is currently seeking an entry-level Electronic Warfare (EW) Test and Evaluation (T&E) Research Engineer for a full time research faculty position. TEN conducts EW T&E research creating specialized hardware and software tool sets. Specific research areas include Missile Warning System (MWS), Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and Electronic Attack (EA) test applications. The candidate will work in a highly interactive small research team of hardware and software developers and analysts developing Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test systems that are used to provide high fidelity simulation of a real-time Elecro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR), Radio Frequency (RF), and Avionics environment for testing EW systems.


  • Designing hardware for EW HITL systems
  • Developing and analyzing EW HITL systems
  • Testing and troubleshooting EW HITL systems

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree field

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with systems engineering processes
  • Experience with prototyping a new designed hardware and/or software system (i.e. senior design project, internship, student employment)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of architectures, functions, and interfaces for EW and Avionics Systems
  • Experience with relevant interfaces, including MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, serial, discrete and analog interfaces
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging Hardware (HW) and Software (SW) system
  • HW and SW laboratory experience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
