Job Description

The Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) RF Photonics and Advanced Materials (RFPAM) Division is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Data and Numerical Analyst. This position will provide analytical knowledge and skills in support of government sponsored projects spanning statistical, quantum, electromagnetic physics, as well as machine learning and computer vision. RFPAM's research is performed in the areas of RF Photonic Systems, Microelectronic Systems, Advanced Materials, and Jammers and Decoys.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform analysis on and implementation of a wide range of algorithms. This can include numerical methods for producing solutions to problems of physical interest, such as various partial and ordinary differential equations, to more modern algorithms in machine learning and computer vision. Education & Length of Experience

Research Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline.

Research Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Consideration will be given to candidates that do not have a Master's degree with 10+ years of experience performing in roles that align with the responsibilities and requirements defined for this position.
  • Experience in scientific analysis (scientific computing, software design, or the analysis and design of physical systems from a mathematical perspective)
  • Experience in analyzing the performance and design of varied systems from their mathematical specification via the use of high-level programming languages (Python, Scala, Julia, C, and C++)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in applied research and development
  • Experience of APIs specific to high performance computing, machine learning, or computer vision (Cuda, PyTorch, OpenCV, and Tensorflow)
  • Experience in collaborating on software development projects, especially in scientific computing
  • Experience in leading research projects and managing researchers
  • Excellent communication skills
