The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) is within the Systems Integration & Test directorate at RMD. The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) includes all of the engineering disciplines responsible for systems design & test on all Raytheon Missile Defense (RMD) products. Our engineers are responsible for all elements of the development lifecycle for test including: test requirements, test system design, flight simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, computer-in-the-loop, advanced engineering prototyping technology, flight operations for manned and unmanned vehicles, environmental testing, environmental characterization and engineering laboratory management. We are hands-on, designing with the latest technology and tools, and integrate state of the art test solutions with the most advanced engineering systems in the world.

Environmental Test is seeking a Technical Support Engineer in the field of environmental testing. The tech support engineer will be responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating in an integrated product (IP) team environment with fellow ET Support Engineers, ET Test Engineers, and internal engineering customers. The tech support engineer will work within the IP team to develop the best methods for implementing tests to meet customer requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the test including test design and setup, equipment control and monitoring, and data collection. The tech support engineer is responsible for performing troubleshooting and adjustment of both the equipment and test setup when technical issues arise.

  • Develop and execute instrumentation, signal conditioning, and data acquisition plans for testing engineering hardware on mechanical shock and electrodynamic vibration test systems as well as climatic environmental chambers
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation equipment, data acquisition systems, and test setups to identify and remedy issues with correct operation
  • Implement engineering best practices to ensure testing is performed accurately and on schedule

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Typically requires a related University Degree or equivalent experience and less than two (2) years of prior relevant experience in a test engineering support capacity
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience performing hands on vibration testing using vibration controllers such as Unholtz-Dickie, LMS, Vibration Research, Jaguar, or Crystal Instruments
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience with all types of instrumentation to include accelerometers, force transducers, thermocouples, strain gages, load cells, and displacement transducers
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience with data acquisition system hardware and software such as Dewesoft, DEWETRON, Somat, or National Instruments LabVIEW
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (Preferred majors: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology) and two or more years of equivalent experience in a test engineering support capacity
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills including effective written, verbal, and listening
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience developing and evaluating requirements and able to evaluate test issues and define solutions
  • Working knowledge of test equipment troubleshooting processes

The ideal candidate is a motivated hands-on, self-starter who cheerfully accepts work assignments and diligently drives to complete them. They are creative and innovative, possessing coordination, methodical, problem-solving, and extreme attention to detail skills.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
