Job Description

The Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for bright, curious, and motivated hardware-oriented engineers and scientists who enjoy creating and fielding innovative solutions to challenging technical problems. Researchers in SEAL apply interesting cutting edge technologies to problems of vital importance for the nation's security, work with nationally recognized technical leaders, and enjoy a satisfying work-life balance. They investigate and develop radio frequency (RF) sensor systems, with particular emphasis on radar and electronic warfare (EW) systems, through digital and RF design engineering, signal and data processing algorithm development, and performance modeling and simulation.

This position is within SEALs Sensor Protection Technologies Program Office (SPTPO) where engineers develop applied solutions addressing current and future critical needs in RF sensors and electronic countermeasures. The breadth of activities includes definition and analysis of requirements, embedded systems design and development, rapid prototyping, laboratory and field testing, and building and fielding deployable systems.

Job Duties

  • Design and build custom embedded systems hardware
  • Design and develop embedded systems software
  • Develop FPGA firmware and software
  • Conduct modeling and simulation for system analysis and assessment
  • Conduct laboratory integration and tests of developed systems
  • Deploy developed systems to major U.S. test ranges for test, evaluation, and training

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field of study

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience or relevant coursework in embedded systems design
  • 1+ years of experience or relevant coursework using MATLAB, Mathematica, C, Python, or similar languages

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of full-time work experience in any of the following: Digital/RF electronics, FPGAs, VHDL, embedded firmware/software, MATLAB, ALTIUM, C/C++, radar, and electronic warfare.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
