Job Summary:
The Algorithm & Simulation (A&S) Directorate is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for RMD's broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. The Flight Sciences Department, within Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) is looking for an aerodynamics engineering professional with experience leading teams performing inlet design, testing, and integration through all phases of system development from concept design to flight to perform in the role of Aerodynamics Engineering Fellow at our Tucson, AZ location.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • The Aerodynamics Engineering Fellow will apply knowledge of advanced inlet design techniques in the development of supersonic and hypersonic missile systems and technologies.
  • In this role, you will guide, advise, and/or lead activities in advanced airbreathing propulsion system flow path design, development, integration and testing.
  • You will apply your deep expertise to develop novel solutions to the most complex problems in emerging technologies for high-speed missile systems.
  • You will perform critical aerospace system trades and advise upper-level management in pursuit of courses of action to achieve organizational business objectives.
  • You will guide the successful completion of high-priority program efforts from planning to execution and represent the organization as an authority on program efforts within the field of internal aerodynamics.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) additional years of experience

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
  • At least twelve (12) years of experience in inlet design including all phases of system development from concept design to flight.
  • Experience in the design of high-speed air-breathing propulsion systems and associated technologies for supersonic and/or hypersonic air vehicles.
  • Authorship of intellectual property (patent disclosures) and/or conference/journal publications in applicable technical areas
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:
  • Existing U.S. security clearance
  • Experience in business development, including technical and cost proposal preparation.
  • Experience managing suppliers. Experience generating specifications and statements of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an air vehicle design from concept design to flight
  • Experience training and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels and functions
  • Experience in external aerodynamic design, prediction, modeling, performance analysis, ground test, and/or flight test in support of aerospace systems development.
  • Experience with supersonic and hypersonic/high altitude aerodynamics and thermodynamics, as well as familiarity with and the fundamentals of missile stability & control and flight dynamics.
  • Experience leading wind tunnel tests and supporting flight testing. Experience deducing aerodynamics and propulsion system performance from post flight data.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary design optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods including requirements analysis and allocation and specification derivation.
  • Proficient with aerodynamics prediction tools and understanding applicability of specific tools including CFD. Experience with aerodynamic design and analysis for both internal and external flows.
  • Experience with performance analysis by simulation, including verification and validation techniques
  • Familiarity with Matlab, Python, FORTRAN and/or C/C++.
  • Masters or PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Math or Physics
