Air Products is seeking a Senior Global Technical leader for the role of Engineering Associate in Electrical Engineering and Reliability that will provide strategic global leadership in our Operations division overseeing a breadth of critical electrical equipment.  The successful candidate will work in the Global Industrial Gases Operational Excellence team supporting industrial gases operating plants and technologies, including Air Separation, Steam Methane Reformers and Cryogenic Liquefaction.  This position can be located in either Houston, Texas or Allentown, Pennsylvania.  The successful candidate will travel globally to engage with operating facilities and regional electrical engineering operations personnel.
 
Key Responsibilities
 

  • Lead a global Community of Practice amongst the network of electrical leaders across operations, review Key Performance Indicators, develop action items for key issues, and sponsor improvement projects to be managed by the regional teams.
  • Develop electrical equipment and electrical system reliability program plans, perform reliability analysis, apportion failure rates, generate reliability predictions and reports, analyze production and field data to identify reliability improvement opportunities and establish a robust Condition Monitoring system based on:
    • Consequence and Probability of failure
    • Mitigation options and cost analysis
    • Effectiveness of mitigation
    • Recommendation and strategy development based on the above, including incorporating condition monitoring into future new electrical equipment.
    • Incorporate new technological developments in the suite of condition monitoring techniques where the application is appropriate.
  • Provide leadership in the elements of Reliability-Centered Maintenance, including criticality analysis, life expectancy analysis, partial discharge trend analysis, temperature and vibration analysis, thermography and other condition monitoring technologies, preventive maintenance optimization, critical spares, mechanical integrity, and work process optimization.Identify cost effective preventative maintenance activities and cycle times to align with the Condition Monitoring program.
  • Drive cultural change around electrical equipment and maintenance, particularly looking to implement new technologies into the fleet.  Engage with industry associations to stay current on industry trends, anticipate how changes can positively affect our assets.
  • Develop a model to address long term infrastructure needs including multi-year capital and spares plans. Work with regional operating teams to validate model’s effectiveness.
  • Work with Engineering and Procurement on new assets to standardize where ever possible on equipment and vendor selection, and capitalize on the sparing synergy. Be a technical resource to assist in qualifying new offerings or vendors and identify necessary maintenance practices and reliability expectations with new equipment.
  • Ownership of the company global standards and electrical safety training curriculum (which the regional teams will deliver).  Working with the regional electrical leadership, understand code differences and determine when regional differences should exist or programs be merged.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support to maintenance and operations for electrical system problems, for failure analysis and the measures of repair.
  • Conduct and document Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMECA/FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Support Root Cause Failure Analysis for equipment failures across the global fleet and/or provide a cold eyes review of corrective actions.

Minimum Requirements
 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, or similar.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as an Electrical or Reliability engineer or equivalent role with a proven track record in an Engineering Contractor and/or Operating Company covering the detailed engineering, operational, and maintenance aspects of electrical systems and the following equipment:
    • MV and LV induction & synchronous motors
    • MV and LV induction & synchronous generators
    • MV and LV switchgears including protection and control
    • Variable speed drive and soft start systems
    • Power and distribution transformers
    • Instrument power distribution with uninterruptible power supply systems
    • Sound knowledge of hazardous area equipment selection and application
    • Up-to-date knowledge of major international codes & standards
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively in an influencing role across a diverse range of cultures.
  • Experience performing reliability predications and analysis for industrial gas, petrochemical, chemical or manufacturing systems.
  • Practical experience using and evaluating condition monitoring equipment and its data output analytics, in interpreting the data to make decisions related to equipment reliability.
  • Have Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer Status or similar level of professional certification.
  • English as the primary language.

 
Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal, communications, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Frequent travel (25-30%) to operating facilities and other regional engineering and operations centers.
