OVERVIEW

The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for the position of Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) for the Facilities Services office. 

Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor for Quality Assurance, this position performs engineering planning, design, design review, options analysis, and cost analysis in the areas of mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing systems for judicial branch facilities. The incumbent will assist facility management staff in the more complex facility maintenance engineering activities including: 1) development and control of operating and maintenance procedures, 2) analysis of design maintainability and operability, 3) local improvement district applications, and 4) other related technical support.

Incumbent will work directly with regulatory agencies such as Division of the State Architect (DSA), Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), Division of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal/OSHA), and local city and county Departments of Public Works (DPW) to explain the Judicial Council’s approach to code compliance in designs for new capital projects, facility modification projects, and correction of code violations in existing court facilities.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in the San Francisco or Sacramento office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees facilities maintenance program for technical effectiveness, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency, and code compliance.
  • Develops and oversees implementation policies for MEP review and standards for capital and facility modification projects.
  • Reviews A/E documents for compliance with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes and with JCC Trial Court Facilities Design Standards for capital and facility modification projects.
  • Oversees the JCC’s Rooftop Lease Program.
    • Assist project management teams by establishing documentation requirements for most commonly performed facility modification project types such as generator replacement, cooling tower replacement, re-roofing, and elevator upgrades.
    • Develops protocol for plan review, permitting, and inspection work for county-owned facilities. This task involves travel to county seats and negotiating agreements with county public works staff.
    • Establishes and oversees implementation of program for reviewing costs for facility modification projects, including minimum requirements for level of detail to be included in estimates.
    • This position requires minimal travel to JCC facilities under construction or occupied existing buildings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy management, or building science, or a directly related field and three (3) years of experience in area of assignment. Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer
  • Valid driver’s license as assigned.
