The Energy/IT Solutions Analyst analyzes research, develops, maintains and implements improvements to the Power Systems Advanced Applications in the energy management system (EMS), the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, and other electric control center automation systems.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs Network and Scada Modeling. Assists with the support, monitoring, and control of the Bulk Electric System (BES) including effectively responding to the needs of control room operating staff, field personnel, and other end users
2. Interfaces with Control Center personnel and support team in supporting and enhancing the effectiveness of EMS Applications
3. Solves limited software support requests within the energy management system (EMS), the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, and other electric control center automation systems
4. Utilizes approved EMS and SCADA support delivery processes and tools (specification, design, testing, and development of the EMS system)
5. Assists in basic level troubleshooting of basic aspects of the EMS Advanced Applications and the SCADA system
6. Provides simple service and implementation support
7. Populates performance reports for energy system operations
8. Identifies and escalates changes and applies mitigation approaches as directed
9. Migrates and deploys simple solutions
10. Actively updates and maintains the annual disaster recovery plans in the EMS Advanced Applications and the SCADA database
11. Implements and manages the electric system security program that protects the system from threats
12. Assists in on-call rotation to support operations and maintenance of the EMS Advanced Applications and the SCADA system during off hours

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong Electrical Engineering background along with strong software background.
• Understanding of the principles of Bulk Electric System (BES), Modeling and EMS Applications like State Estimator (SE), Real-time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), Load flow Analysis (OLF) and Automatic Generation Control (AGC).
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred. For higher level position, Master’s or a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with the Siemens Advanced EMS Applications and SCADA, databases and displays.
• Knowledge of safety policies, practices and procedures; basic knowledge of computer science and/or engineering; generation, transmission and distribution system design, operations, and procedures; systems software and database administration; network and workstation technologies; technical issues related to energy management systems and applications; software, hardware and telecommunication; systems for real-time data collection and exchange. Skill in developing and writing technical documentation; evaluating and testing emerging technologies
• SQL (Structured Query Language); statistics, mechanics, and physics; technical writing; testing different types of equipment, such as flow meters; Microsoft office, including Word and Excel.
• Ability to troubleshoot Windows and Linux environments; provided off hours support as part of an on-call rotation; work well on a team; works well with customers/clients; problem solve; thinks innovatively; gives high level of attention to detail
