Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking an Embedded Systems Hardware Engineer for a full time research faculty position in the Open Systems Development Branch (OSDB). This position supports development and implementation of modular open architectures for military/industrial systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
• Develop prototypes based on modular open standards
• Develop hardware and systems standards based on modular open architectures
• Troubleshoot hardware and software anomalies and develop solutions using system specifications, interface definitions, and equipment drawings
• Integrate system components and support equipment in laboratory and fielded settings
• Interface with customers to gather input on standards documents and technical solutions
• Perform other duties as assigned

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

• A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
• A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or

• A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Experience developing computer and/or Radio Frequency (RF) equipment
• Excellent written and oral communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing systems for airborne or military applications
• Experience developing systems for industrial process controls
• Familiarity with designing hardware for Ethernet, PCIe, or I2C bus based equipment 
• Familiarity with designing systems using Model Based System Engineering (SysML)
• Experience integrating and troubleshooting complex systems
• Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
