Embedded Software Engineer -- ELSYS

Job Description

The Embedded Software Engineer in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Test Engineering Division (TEN) will develop embedded software applications for Electronic Warfare (EW), avionics, and radar Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) test systems. These systems provide high fidelity simulation and stimulation of real-time Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR), Radio Frequency (RF), and avionics environments for testing EW, avionics and radar systems that are used to protect aircraft from ground and airborne threats. The Embedded Software Engineer will develop customized software solutions for complex EW T&E needs whose applications may include high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor programming. 

Job Duties

  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and validation of key technical embedded software efforts (predominantly C/C++)
  • Test, debug, and integrate software modules into system components; support equipment in laboratory and field settings
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems; to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future technologies
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel, and support issue tracking and sprint planning
  • Participate in new business development efforts by contributing to white papers, RFI/RFP responses, sponsor briefs, and by proposing new research areas suitable for internal research and development (IR&D) funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in  Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related degree field.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in  Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related degree field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in  Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related degree field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in  Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related degree field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidates must have a graduation date of no later than May.
  • Experience with software development processes and software programming
  • Experience with version control and software development work-flows
  • Experience with microprocessors (ARM, Power PC, etc.) and relevant operating systems (Linux, RTOS, or bare metal)  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience as a student researcher, co-op, or intern working with software development research 

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
