Job Description

The Embedded Electronics Engineer in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) will develop and design electronic systems while leading multi-disciplinary engineering project teams. AES is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems provide our sponsors with technological solutions in the fields of Electronic Warfare (EW), command and control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications.

Job Duties

  • Design, layout, procure, fabricate, and test of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB)
  • Develop embedded software for embedded applications
  • Produce and update design documentation
  • Develop unit tests for hardware, developed software, and contribute to broader test support needs as necessary
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews and sponsor design reviews
  • Interface and coordinate with other team members including other developers, testers, system engineers, etc
  • Analyze component selection and perform technology trade-off analysis within the context of overall system performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical degree.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout
  • Experience with embedded systems design
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit analysis/synthesis
  • Experience with object-oriented software design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Experience with Altium Designer for PCB design
  • Experience with lab test equipment such as logic analyzers, multimeters, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience with Analog-to-Digital (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog (DAC) Converters
  • Experience working in the Electronic Warfare domain
  • Experience with Systems Engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with FPGA VHDL or Verilog programming

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
