We have an opening for an Electrical Engineering Designer. You will provide advanced technical support in Electrical Engineering (EE) design, documentation, and manufacturing for the Engineering Design Group in support of the National Ignition Facility and Photon Sciences (NIF&PS) Directorate. You will develop, interpret and translate concepts into design layouts, with supportive calculations and documentation. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Provide advanced electro-mechanical design support to engineering, scientific and technical staff utilizing knowledge of AutoCAD where design parameters and specifications have been established.
- Perform calculations to support complex technical work using standard engineering formulas.
- Process drawings and other technical information using database management software.
- Maintain systems documentation and experimental records. Provide graphics and related technical material in support of design reviews, procedures and other documentation.
- Contribute to preliminary design concepts for hardware, componentry and systems including making independent judgment and decisions under moderate technical authority.
- Estimate scheduling & costs to determine effective methods in design, materials and time to meet project deliverables and prepare and present technical material for design reviews, procedures and other related documentation.
- Review completed drawings and other documentation for adherence to LLNL drafting standards and specifications and provide effective feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Electro-Mechanical Drafting or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- Advanced knowledge in EE designs, electrical schematics, engineering hardware design, fabrication, assembly techniques, materials, testing processes and manufacturing methods.
- Advanced knowledge of the standards, procedures, and techniques related to EE design, including knowledge of ASME Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard.
- Significant experience making independent, fundamental decisions regarding a variety of complex technical problems.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of electrical and mechanical design principles.
- Ability to read and follow engineering notes, sketches, drawings specifications and procedures.
- Effective written and verbal communication, presentation and feedback skills necessary to lead and provide direction to others.

Desired Qualifications:
- Proficient user of Creo Parametric 3.0 CAD software.
- Proficient user of Creo Schematics 4.0 CAD software.
- Proficient user of Mentor Graphics CAD software.
- Proficient user of GerbTool software.
- Expertise in the selection of high voltage, fiber-optic, control and communication cabling, terminations and connectors and extensive experience in design of components and hardware related to diagnostic & testing equipment.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
