Job Description

The Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer in the Applied Embedded Systems (AES) division of the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) will support the development of cutting-edge EW systems that define next-generation capabilities for our sponsors. The position will develop complex systems in a systems engineering role working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to build innovative solutions related to electronic systems. AES is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems provide our sponsors with technological solutions in the fields of EW, command and control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications.

Job Duties

  • Support development of system requirements and designs for Electronic Support and Electronic Attack systems
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to develop trade studies, product concepts, and designs
  • Draft, update, and maintain design documents, interface documents, and requirements
  • Perform system-level modeling, simulation, and analysis to evaluate system designs against requirements
  • Support development of systems across the full spectrum of the development life-cycle
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards and road maps for current and future technology updates
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to customers and potential customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in design, assessment, or operation of EW and/or Radar systems
  • Experience with requirements development and traceability through all system development phases
  • 3+ years of applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience with avionics or other electronic systems used in Department of Defense (DOD) systems
  • Experience in the Electronic Support (ES)/Electronic Attack (EA) domains including ground and airborne radar and missile systems, stand-off/escort/self-protect radar countermeasures, and/or communications EW
  • Experience with ES/EA system architectures and system hardware design
  • Experience with Radio Frequency (RF) principles, as well as system and subsystem-level analysis
  • Experience in advanced antenna technology and antenna performance
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships among research personnel, government, and industry stakeholders

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
