Job Description

The Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer will lead the development of cutting-edge EW systems that often define our sponsors' next-generation capabilities. The position is in the Applied Embedded Systems (AES) division of the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) at GTRI. AES is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems provide our sponsors with technological solutions in the fields of EW, command, and control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications.

Job Duties

  • Support development of system architectures and requirements for Electronic Support and Electronic Attack systems
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to develop trade studies, product concepts, and designs
  • Draft, update and maintain design documents, interface documents, and requirements
  • Perform system-level modeling, simulation, and analysis to evaluate system designs against requirements
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards and road maps for current and future technology updates
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to customers and potential customers
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members
  • Perform other duties as assign

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Bachelors and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other Engineering or Science related disciplines and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelors and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other Engineering or Science related disciplines and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other Engineering or Science related disciplines.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Bachelors and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other Engineering or Science related disciplines and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelors and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other Engineering or Science related disciplines and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Masters Degree with one or both in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other Engineering or Science related disciplines and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in design, assessment, and/or operation of EW and/or Radar systems
  • Experience with requirements development and traceability through all system development phases
  • 5+ years of applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with avionics or other electronic systems used in Department of Defense (DOD) systems
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships among research personnel, government, and industry stakeholders
  • Experience with Electronic Support (ES)/Electronic Attack (EA) domains, including ground and airborne radar and missile systems, stand-off/escort/self-protect radar countermeasures, and/or communications EW
  • Experience with ES/EA system architectures and system hardware design
  • Experience with Radio Frequency (RF) principles, as well as system and subsystem-level analysis
  • Experience with advanced antenna technology and antenna performance.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
