The Sensors & Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking engineers/scientists who have interest and experience in conducting applied research in radar electronic protection (EP), such as EP algorithm development, performance assessment, and supporting EP modernization efforts. As a researcher in the Surface Based Radar Electronic Protection Program Office within SEAL's Air and Missile Defense Division (AMDD), candidates will conduct cutting-edge research efforts to assess and improve the EP capability of major US DoD radar acquisition and modernization efforts, with emphasis on ground-based air and missile defense applications.
Researchers will provide critical technical expertise, analysis, and thought leadership to Government technical teams and work closely with Prime Contractors to develop and field advanced radar EP capabilities in US radars. In this role, researchers will have opportunities to contribute throughout the engineering lifecycle, from EP concept and trade studies to testing and evaluation (T&E) and fielding in tactical systems. A primary emphasis in current programs is to design, plan, and conduct field testing and/or hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) events, in coordination with other SEAL divisions, to facilitate EP development activities. Researchers will analyze radar data from field tests to assess EP current performance, develop novel EA mitigations, assess system requirements, and support model validation. Additional opportunities include performing systems engineering tasks and trade studies for sensors and EP system architectures, developing Electronic Attack (EA) assessments tailored to system and mission specifics to guide EP modernization strategies, and developing EA/EP modeling and simulation tools.
Successful candidates will develop strong customer relationships and effectively collaborate across GTRI divisions and labs to leverage available expertise. Senior candidates will be expected to identify new areas for GTRI contributions and capture new business opportunities. Researchers are expected to maintain awareness of current and future trends in both EA and EP, driven by recent advancements in digital technologies, and grow expertise that will enable opportunities to serve as a technical resource across a number of projects and internal research and development efforts.
