Tacoma Power is seeking an Electrical Engineering Supervisor to join their Generation team. The Electrical Engineering Supervisor ensures that electrical systems for Tacoma Power’s power plants, fish facilities, campus facilities and communications facilities are engineered to be consistent, reliable, low cost and compliant with the latest NERC, WECC, IEEE and other pertinent industry standards. This position oversees Electrical Engineers and engineering technicians who support engineering needs for capital and O&M projects related to generators, governors, exciters, valves, spill gates, power distribution systems, and other equipment.
 
Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise a team of electrical engineers and engineering technicians to ensure engineering quality/design consistency for power generation, fish, administration and communication facilities
  • Manage staff performance, including setting measurable goals and expectations, providing feedback, and coaching
  • Perform short and long term project planning, identify and assign project scopes, schedules and budgets 
  • Develop, maintain and adhere to internal engineering standards and business processes
  • Review and approve engineering design packages
  • Supervise Power Generation’s Arc Flash Program
  • Monitor contractor and internal resource performance and compliance
  • Provide engineering direction and technical review of others work
  • Develop specifications, review and approve bids, negotiate and manage contracts, approve payments, and close out contracts when work is complete or equipment is installed and commissioned
  • Incorporate applicable sections of the NERC Internal Compliance Program into the workgroup’s culture of compliance

 

Qualifications

 High school graduate or equivalent;

  • Seven years increasingly responsible experience in field of specialty;
  • Five years' experience providing work direction to others;
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain in two years desired;
  • Depending on the functional position, a college degree in the field of engineering, business management, economics or field of specialty may be desired;
