Electrical Engineering Faculty Search at the University of San Diego

The Electrical Engineering department at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for one or more faculty positions to begin September 1, 2022. Based on the qualifications, the positions would be tenure-track at the Assistant or Associate level, or contract Professor of Practice.

The Electrical Engineering department at USD is part of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), which is ranked by U.S. News in the top 15 of non-doctoral engineering schools. Our department supports an undergraduate program in electrical engineering with approximately 200 students. Our faculty is devoted to challenging and inspiring students to learn the technical skills, global perspective, social awareness and leadership ability needed to become changemaking engineers. Our electrical engineering students are highly-engaged and actively contribute to the mission of the department and the University.

Successful candidates should have a doctorate in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field at the time of employment for a tenure-track position, or at least 10 years of industry experience and a bachelors in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field for a contract position. We are committed to making meaningful and lasting progress in responding to the needs and concerns of underrepresented groups, including scholars of color, women, veterans, persons with disabilities, and other persons with marginalized identities. Candidates from all areas in computer and electrical engineering are encouraged to apply, with particular interest in embedded systems, digital systems, and integrated circuits and systems. Candidates should have a passion for teaching at all levels of the program, including our first-year engineering and senior capstone program course sequences, and hands-on laboratory sequences as well as student advising and mentoring; and a commitment to advancing the university mission in justice and care of our common home. In addition to teaching, candidates will be expected to develop an active research program as a faculty scholar working to solve real world problems, and would be encouraged to involve undergraduate students in their research.

This ad describes one possible position within a larger cluster hire in which several new faculty members across departments will join the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, and so we encourage applications from candidates who are interested in research and teaching across disciplinary boundaries within a collaborative environment in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and automation, bioX, and smart power systems; and in addressing the challenges present in the nexus of energy, water, food and health. Faculty who are interested in joining the Electrical Engineering department should indicate so in their application to the general ad. All application materials should be tailored to the criteria in the general ad. Please submit all application materials online to the general ad through USD's jobs portal at https://jobs.sandiego.edu/cw/en-us/job/494760/engineering-and-computer-science-faculty. Review of applications is ongoing and first round interviews are expected to begin January 17, 2022.
