In support of KUB’s proactive long-range program to improve and maintain our utility systems (known as Century II), and support new service growth within our service area, we are seeking qualified applicants to join our team to fill an immediate need as we focus on upgrading and modernizing our electric system assets from our poles, wire, and underground cable to our substations and system automation in order to continue to serve reliable electric power to our customers. Project opportunities within this position are varied and allow for career growth. Day to day responsibilities may include creating estimates, project analysis, designs, drawings, and installation plans for electric utilities. Engineering Associates also conduct field surveys and inspections, map installed utility facilities, and work closely with joint-use utilities on projects. Engineering Associates must become knowledgeable of KUB construction standards and practices, and work with internal and external customers to provide engineering services. They also receive training to perform storm response duties with other department members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, and specifications
  • Ability to work as part of a team to achieve department and KUB goals
  • Ability to utilize AutoCad, Microstation, or other computer-aided drafting software
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, or related field from an accredited community college or university
  • Two (2) or more years experience in the engineering or construction industry, preferably with a public utility
  • Personal computer skills including Geographic Information Systems, database management, spreadsheet reporting, word processing, presentations, and project management software
  • Experience utilizing AutoCad, Microstation, or other computer-aided drafting software
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other KUB departments, City, and County
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team on concurrent projects in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and provide engineering services for customers
