Responsibilities

This position reports to the Global Engineering Manager, Product Compliance and will be responsible for the following:

  • Be the technical lead for compliance and regulation activities for MSA products
  • Be a strategic resource for the organization on regulatory, standards and compliance requirements, and raise the overall knowledge in these areas throughout the organization
  • Monitor and communicate internal and external trends that relate to potential standards, regulatory, and compliance changes
  • Act as the official point of contact for external parties such as NIOSH, UL, FM, CSA, and other agencies as necessary depending on product group
  • Represent our organization in standards development activities as well as professional organizations, such as trade associations, with a mission to ensure the safety of our customers.
  • Contribute to the alignment of marketing, engineering, and compliance activities globally
  • Be accountable for ensuring product designs meet global agency, standards, and regulatory requirements and obtain certifications per plan.
  • Develop best practice templates, reports, and processes for continuous improvement of approvals management
  • Witness agency verification testing, including running correlation studies, and lead discussions on standards interpretation where needed
  • Review compliance impact of new and modified engineering documentation, such as drawings, and provide final disposition. Specify content of any approval drawings or similar technical documentation
  • Assist in maintaining certifications by ensuring product modifications are compliant and approved.
  • Provide support to all certification and department related activities regardless of product group, which may include but is not limited to agency audits, production line requirements, and customer service
  • Travel (Domestic & International) Up to 10% required

Requirements

Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation). Able to effectively communicate technical information to audiences of all levels, including external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates specialized technical knowledge and apply that knowledge in an innovative manner
  • Proven ability to simultaneously and independently manage multiple tasks, solve problems, lead projects and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks/assignments using independent judgment and with limited supervision
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to function and contribute in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs), Notified Bodies and other International certification agencies requirements.
  • New Product Design experience with Safety Products or other regulated products
  • Experience with product safety standards and regulations such as NFPA, ANSI, NIOSH, EN, IEC, UL, FM, CSA or similar
  • Design or compliance experience in Hazardous Location protection techniques (Intrinsic Safety, Explosion Proof)
  • Design or compliance experience with Radio, Wireless, Bluetooth, and/or Telecommunications
  • Global compliance experience

 

Education and experience required:

  • BSEE, or relevant discipline, preferably from an ABET accredited program

This position is available at four different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:

  • Level one (Staff I Engineer): 0 years relevant experience
  • Level two (Staff II Engineer): 2 years relevant experience
  • Level three (Staff III Engineer): 3 years relevant experience
  • Level four (Senior Staff Engineer): 5 years relevant experience

o MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of experience.

o PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years of experience.

Preferred:

  • MSME or relevant discipline preferably from an ABET accredited program.
  • Degrees and/or certification in multiple technical disciplines.
