Electrical Engineer (Engineer II, III and Senior)

Merrick & Company's is seeking highly motivated, team oriented individuals to serve as Electrical Engineers.   The positions will be located in Los Alamos, a small community located in the scenic high desert of Northern New Mexico.  Los Alamos offers access to a wealth of outdoor activities, a family-friendly community, an excellent public school system and a low crime rate.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing custom solutions, mentoring a team and the outdoor life style of Northern New Mexico.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Electrical engineering of for Nuclear Materials handling equipment.
  • Electrical engineering for installation of Nuclear Science Scientific Instrumentation.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments
  • Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignment
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work
  • Prepares scopes, budgets and schedules
  • Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional and/or complex problems, direction on modified techniques and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with engineers and/ or administrative staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Develops and applies broad knowledge and skills in a specific practice area
  • Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields and ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experienced in applying National Electrical Code.
  • Experienced in Electrical Calculation Software.
  • Ability to manage other electrical engineers and designers on concurrent projects
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Assists with client, customer or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings
  • Previous U.S. Department of Energy experience a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering or Architectural-Engineering with Electrical Emphasis Engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum Experience:  For Engineer II - (four (4) years, For Engineer III - eight(8) years and for Senior Engineer - twelve (12) years of experience
  • PE License required for Engineer III and Senior.
  • Client projects for these positions require US Citizenship

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer.

  • Construction Site visits require walking through constructions sites and climbing of ladders.
  • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and occasional construction site visits.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, plotters and scanners.
  • Construction site visits require wearing of hard hats, safety glasses, hard toe shoes, and climbing of ladders.
  • May be required to travel to other office locations.
  • May be required to travel to client facilities or fabrication and manufacturing facilities.
