In support of KUB’s proactive long-range program to improve and maintain our utility systems (known as Century II), and support new service growth within our service area, we are seeking applicants to join our team to fill an immediate need as we focus on upgrading and modernizing our electric system assets from our poles, wire, and underground cable to our substations and system automation in order to continue to serve reliable electric power to our customers. Project opportunities within this position are varied and allow for career growth. Day to day responsibilities may include preparing detailed engineering designs for distribution, transmission and substations using computer aided design and drafting tools. Overseeing projects through the construction and closeout process while maintaining all project documentation. Coordinating with other KUB departments and contractors to meet design and construction deadlines. Performing calculations to ensure adequate design. Developing and using KUB design, material and equipment specifications and assist with long range capital improvement project planning and budgeting. Receive training to perform storm response duties with other department members. Research and advance new technologies such as distribution automation to enhance the electric system performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
  • Good analytical and project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills
  • Ability to work independently on projects in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft office products
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with utilities
  • Professional Engineer license in State of Tennessee or FE/EI certification and ability to obtain Professional Engineer license in the State of Tennessee
  • Experience with distribution and/or transmission power line design, TDOT design experience, electric system modeling or system reliability studies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projectsExperience with Microstation, PLS-CADD, ArcGIS, or ArcMap
