Job Summary:

The Electrical Product Team (EPT) provides engineering design, integration and production to Missile, core radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system competencies including power systems, torpedo and sonar electronics, receivers and exciters, antennas, control actuation system and microwave sub-assemblies.

The Advanced Electrical Products Department (AEP) within the Electrical Product Team (EPT) is responsible for design engineering including the following areas:

Hardware Engineering
Digital Subsystems Integration and Test
Component, ECAD, Proto Development
FPGA/ASIC Design
Guidance FPGA Products
System Power and Analog Controls


As part of the AEP Departments FPGA design team, engineers are responsible for the architecture, design, and documentation of deliverable firmware and FPGA embedded processing at RMD.

In this role, you will develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families including: Xilinx, Intel (formerly Altera), Lattice, and Microsemi. Designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces. Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to determine and develop requirements, architect new parts, collaborative modeling of algorithms, partition and perform code development, simulation, and place and route. Designs are verified against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Help drive projects and execute to program schedules on time and budget
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, self-reliance, with little supervision required
  • Design and deliver production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production
  • Work with systems, hardware, software engineers to ensure product success
  • Demonstrate the ability to architect FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Translate system level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability and maintainability
  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage
  • Support internal and external technical reviews
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer, Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM degree.
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional engineering experience
  • Experience with digital design and VHDL coding
  • Familiarity with Xilinx or Microsemi devices and flow tools
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:
  • Familiarity with the Linux environment and commands.
  • Familiarity with delivering FPGA solutions to system level applications
  • Expertise of Xilinx, Intel, Microchip or Lattice devices and tool flows
  • Expertise in FPGA timing constraints and timing closure
  • Digital signal processing as applied to FPGA devices
  • Knowledge of C programming and scripting languages such as Perl and Python
  • Knowledge of embedded systems design utilizing Microblaze, Nios, and ARM processors
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 3.0 cumulative GPA desired
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles
