Pulsed Power Technology on a Mission

 

 

 

For more than 60 years, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has been developing, building and applying cutting-edge technology innovations for national security missions.

 

 

 

LLNL is currently expanding its Pulsed Power Research capabilities to help address important national security needs.  We are seeking experienced Engineers to design, instrument, and execute experiments for multiple programs including state-of-the-art radiography systems and pulsed power to support high-energy-density-physics experiments.  

 

 

 

Projects Include:

 

  • Development of cutting-edge radiography utilizing high-voltage engineering and high-voltage solid-state pulser design.
  • Design and execution of fast, high-current Flux Compression Generator platforms through the application of high-voltage and high-current engineering, computational MHD, high-explosive initiation physics and high-voltage closing switch design.
  • Novel approaches to applying B-fields to high-energy-density experiments for the National Ignition Facility (NIF) utilizing computational MHD and electromagnetic FEA.

 

 

 

LLNL combines state-of-the-art facilities and a world-renowned workforce with integrated experimental, computational, and analytical expertise from fundamental physics to completed operational systems.


Requirements

 

 

 

Key Qualifications

  • BS in Electronics Engineering, or related field, or an equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of high voltage/pulsed power systems, including prime power.
  • Significant experience in one or more of the following areas:  pulsed power, power modulation/switching, grounding and shielding in a high EMI environment, or diagnostics/instrumentation systems associated with these areas.
  • Significant experience designing, building, testing, and operating high-voltage pulsed-power systems.
  • Demonstrated experience performing computational modeling and analysis to understand and predict system performance using SPICE, MathCad, and/or Maxwell modeling tools.
