In this position, you will be part of team developing innovative designs, which are implemented in products used by millions of people. The role includes interfacing with cross functional teams, providing mentorship to Architecture, EE, FW/SW and Thermal teams for fan design and sizing, system considerations, electrical design and performance, across multiple Apple products.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of Brushless DC motors
  • Experience with sensor-less motor control ICs
  • Define Fan Electrical engineering requirements and simulations to ensure functional margin of fan for different applications.
  • Interact with EE, Thermal, Acoustics, and Product Design teams to review fan designs and make design decisions
  • Prepare and communicate fan electrical performance reports comparing vendor performance for programs across different design.
  • Work closely with external fan vendors to review, troubleshoot and realize electrical designs and suggest changes for improvement.
  • Select and specify Driver IC's to drive fans in most appropriate ways for reliability, power efficiency, and acoustics.
  • Develop and review IC firmware with the vendors to customize fan control to drive Brushless DC motors.
  • Review and interpret prototype testing to accurately validate design concepts
  • Hands-on experience in lab testing is a must.
  • System Board Layout review to check for signal cross-talk / interference
  • Work with IC vendors and fan vendors to develop long term technology roadmap
  • Spearhead innovation thru exemplary behavior and teamwork
  • Must be able to use of Spice based simulation tools, Simplis, MathCad, Matlab and excel mathematical analysis.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams is extremely important
  • Proven track record of working in fast paced innovative work environment
  • Must possess good understanding of thermals, mechanical and packaging challenges. Must possess knowledge of high volume manufacturing technologies and production variance.
  • Experience in DC-DC or AC-DC design or testing is a plus
  • Experience with design or testing of digital hardware such as microcontrollers and digital interfaces is a plus
  • Engineering management experience is a plus.
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter with innovation, integrity and attention to details.

Description

As an Electrical Design Engineer for DC Fan Control, you will be driving innovative circuit designs from concept investigation and design thru successful product level implementation.
- Participate in core architecture investigation while working closely with system architects and designers by arbitrating design options with technical rigor for key power metric performance optimization including but not limited to efficiency, power density, cost, thermal performance, acoustics, reduced carbon footprint and scalability.
- Define Electrical Engineering requirements for Fan drivers and performs simulations and design analysis to ensure proper performance and functional margin of fans for different applications.
- Develop test plans and perform detailed validation of the fan driver design
- Work closely with the fan vendors to review the electrical designs of the fan drivers, troubleshoot issues and develop improvements.
- Work closely with IC vendors to select the most suitable driver IC for the fan.
- Own circuit design for the driver circuitry of the fan including circuit schematic, BOM, board layout and Firmware.
- Perform competitive bench marking.
- Provide technical support for production issues debug and resolutions
- Conduct Fan EE power seminars and training for cross-functional teams
- Spearhead innovation thru exemplary behavior and teamwork
- Experience with IC definition, application or design is a plus
- Technically lead engineers in the team throughout the life cycle of the products from concept to mass volume production.

Education & Experience

BSEE or MSEE in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to occasional overseas travel as needed
