The ECE department at Colorado State University is seeking an Undergraduate Laboratory Manager to provide long-term consistent, professional management of its instructional laboratories (circuits, electronics, digital design, microprocessors, control systems, and clean room). The individual in this position will collaborate with faculty, staff, graduate teaching assistants and undergrad students to design, implement, troubleshoot, maintain and sustain our undergraduate laboratories.

The Undergraduate Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the equipment in the undergraduate laboratories; this includes, but is not limited to, troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and re-configuring lab equipment and software packages. The selected individual will also develop written laboratory practices implement new apparatus and control software while supervising and observing undergraduate students and ensuring undergraduate labs are operated in a safe manner. This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative professional position.

Requirements

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or related field;
  • Three years relevant industry or academic experience in an experimental or educational laboratory;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty and students for advising and troubleshooting;
  • Ability to work in Windows OS, MS Office (specifically Excel), and demonstrated knowledge/experience with engineering applications;
  • Self-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to physically move lab equipment, tools, and materials (10-30lbs) regularly (multiple times per week) as necessary, without assistance from others.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with circuit, electronic and digital design and test;
  • Practicing knowledge of circuit design tools (such as Cadence design tools), digital design tools (such as Quartus II), and ARM software IDEs (such as Keil MicroVision);
  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines (for printing PCBs);
  • Knowledge of semiconductor cleanrooms, including mechanical maintenance and equipment operations;
  • Basic web programming ability (HTMLCSS, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL) and/or familiarity with WordPress;
  • Ability to work with all groups of people, including students, faculty, staff and other collaborators within and external to the University;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities; and
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of PC computers at the hardware level (i.e., memory, hard drives, optical and other storage devices, wired and wireless networking) and software level.
