Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking a Digital Signal Processing and Field Programmable Gate Array Engineer (DSP/FPGA) Engineer for a full-time research position. This position supports design, development ,and implementation of a variety of digital signal processing algorithms, such as Fast Fourier Transforms, digital filters, polyphase filters, and window functions on both software and hardware (e.g. FPGA) platforms to process high speed data streams. Additional job functions include developing and integrating processed data with consumers, including software algorithms that will further refine and manipulate the data.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
• Develop and improve FPGA applications
• Design of algorithms for RF EW systems
• Design and execution of FPGA unit and integration tests
• Integration of FPGA designs with hardware, software, and other FPGA designs
• Drafting, updating, and maintaining design documents, interface documents, source code comments, and change control documents
• Develop hardware and software prototypes and systems standards for avionics and ground vehicle electronics
• Serve as technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include latest industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates
• Participate in technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators
• Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

• A Master’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
• A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
• A Doctoral degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate 

• A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
• A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
• A Doctoral degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in development of FPGAs for communication or radar equipment
• Minimum of 5+ years of applicable experience in a technical field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with FPGA development (VHDL, Verilog), test, and debug
• Experience with digital signal processing in either radar, communications, or image processing applications
• Experience with mathematical software (Matlab, etc.)
• Experience with System on Chip architectures (Zynq, RFSoC, etc.)
• Experience with Electronic Warfare (EW) systems
• Experience with code repositories (git, Subversion, etc.)
• Experience collaborating with technical and managerial sponsor representatives
• Experience leading sponsored research projects and/or leading small to mid-sized engineering teams
• Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
