Job Description

The Digital Signal Processing Engineer in the Electro-Optical Systems Innovation Division (EOSID) will provide embedded hardware and software development expertise to conceptualize, design, analyze, build, and test high performance computing architectures to support optical systems that meet sponsor requirements and internal research goals. The job provides opportunities to develop advanced technology and publish research.
EOSIDs research is performed in all areas of the imaging chain. From basic geometric/radiometric modeling and analysis, through design and fabrication, to test and evaluation in the field, our team provides subject matter expertise to our customers in order to solve their most challenging problems in undersea, ground, airborne, and space domains. EOSID is a collection of multi-discipline engineers and scientists encompassing optical, physics, mechanical, electrical, computer, software domains, among others.

Job Duties

  • Lead and contribute to technical efforts in the analysis, construction, and design of optical systems for remote sensing applications
  • Document work and capture research findings in internal memorandum, sponsor briefs, conference proceedings, and journal articles
  • Brief senior leadership and sponsors on technical research efforts
  • Support field integration, data collection, and other testing activities relating to Electro-Optical Systems
  • Participate in business development efforts by contributing to white papers, Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, and proposing new research areas suitable for internal research and development (IRAD) funding
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related technical field.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related technical field.

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of May,2021 and skills relevant to this position will be considered

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in software development which can include experience as a Co-Op, student assistant, or intern
  • Experience implementing algorithms using one or more of the following: C/C++, Verilog, ROS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming and scripting (i.e. Matlab, Python, IDL)
  • Experience with embedded hardware design using Xilinx, mentor graphics, Vivado, EAGLE, Cadence, etc
  • Experience with Linux, Red hat, Ubuntu, CentOS
  • Experience with digital signal processing, real-time algorithm implementation, image processing, and/or point cloud processing
  • Experience with mixed signal (Radio Frequency/Analogy/Digital) circuit board design
  • Experience with embedded hardware and software design
  • Experience with electronic test equipment, connectors, and wiring harnesses
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly, test, and debug
  • Experience developing heterogeneous computing systems including real-time FPGA, embedded DSP, CPU, and GPU processing
  • Experience with Active/Passive Elecro-optical (EO)/Infrared (IR) sensors - LIDAR, RADAR, Hyperspectral Imagers, SWIR/MWIR cameras
  • A Master's degree or PhD preferred

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
